Wedding invitation wording and etiquettes

Now that you've picked out your stationery, it's time to work on the wedding invitation wording—The good news is that wedding invitation etiquette rules are simple and straightforward.


No matter which style you select, these guidelines will provide the basic elements for the wording can be applied to either classic and traditional or creative and whimsical, and can be created on your own.

Must haves:

  3. The names of the couple

  7. Dress code (optional but suggested)

  8. Website/Accommodation details

  9. Separate RSVP Card (with either a stamped envelope/email address of a website to provide responses)


Traditionally, the bride's parents are the hosts of the wedding and are named at the top of the invitation, even for very formal affairs. However, including the names of both sets of parents as hosts is a gracious option. Also, more and more couples these days are hosting their own weddings, or doing so together with their parents.


If it's a collaborative affair, you can also use "Together with their parents, (Bride) and (Groom) request the pleasure of your company ..."


What If Any Parents are Deceased?

If you want to include the name of a parent who is deceased, you can include them along with the living parent or on a separate line.


(Bride's name), daughter of (Living parent's full name) and the late (Parent's full name)

and

(Groom's name), son of Mr. (first name) and (full name)
